Your privacy
We never sell your data. We collect only what we need to run the Godai assessment and our courses, we keep it for as short a time as we can, and you can ask us to export or delete it at any time.
Who we are
Ikigai Today (“we”, “us”) offers the Godai assessment and live ikigai courses from Redmond, Washington, USA, and Tokyo, Japan. You can reach us through our contact page.
The short version
- We never sell or rent your personal data, and we don’t share it for advertising.
- Your Godai results are private to you, and to your course facilitators if you join a course.
- To improve the Godai assessment, we study answers with names, email addresses and account details removed. That is the only purpose of that research.
- We don’t use advertising or analytics cookies.
What we collect, and why
The Godai assessment
You can take the assessment without an account. We store your answers and your result so we can show them to you. While you take it, your browser keeps your progress and a private access key for that tab, plus a random code that lets us give you the second version of the questions if you retake it. Clearing your browser storage removes these.
To see your full reflection, you give us your email address. We send a single-use link (valid for 24 hours). Opening it creates a free account, saves your reflection to it, and emails you a copy. If you also tick the box for occasional news, we record that choice separately; you can change your mind at any time.
You can take the assessment once a day. To limit abuse, we briefly use a scrambled (salted and hashed) form of your IP address; we never store your IP address itself.
“Does this sound like you?” feedback
If you answer the short feedback questions under your reflection, that feedback is stored separately and anonymously: without your account, email address or answers. It cannot be traced back to you, and we use it only to improve the assessment.
Your account
Your account holds your email address, a username and your saved reflections. If you join a course, it also holds your enrolment and the work you choose to save in the course companion.
Courses
When you enrol, we need your name, email address and payment. At checkout we also ask a few questions to help us run the sessions: where you’ll join from and, if you’d like to tell us, what to call you, a Zoom email, anything that would help you take part, what you hope to get from the course and how you heard about us. You also confirm that you’re 18 or older, that the course isn’t therapy, and that you’ll keep the group’s sharing confidential. We don’t ask about your health. Your answers are kept with your order and seen only by the course team. Payments are handled by our payment providers (WooPayments, which is powered by Stripe, and PayPal); we never see or store your full card number. In the course, some writing is designed to stay private: the most personal exercises are done on paper and never go online.
Live sessions run on Zoom, under Zoom’s privacy statement. Only the short teaching segment is recorded. Group sharing and breakout conversations are never recorded, and we turn off Zoom’s AI summaries and transcripts. Recordings are shared only with your cohort and deleted 30 days after the course ends.
Contact messages
Messages you send through our contact form are emailed to us and not stored on this website. We use your details only to reply.
Cookies
When you sign in, WordPress sets the cookies it needs to keep you signed in. We don’t use advertising or analytics cookies, and we don’t load tracking scripts from other companies.
Who we share it with
Only the service providers that help us run Ikigai Today, and only for that purpose: our web host (Hostinger), our email delivery service, our payment providers (WooPayments, which is powered by Stripe, and PayPal) and Zoom. We may also disclose information if the law requires it. We never sell your data.
How long we keep it
- Unfinished assessments: deleted after one day.
- Assessment results never saved to an account: deleted after 30 days.
- Unused email links and the address they were sent to: deleted within about a week.
- Session recordings: deleted 30 days after the course ends.
- Course companion work (your worksheets, quick-check answers, class questions and readiness notes): kept while you have access, 12 months after your course ends, then deleted. If we can’t confirm when your course ended, we keep it until we’ve checked, then delete it.
- Your account and saved reflections: kept until you ask us to delete them.
- Anonymous feedback and research data with identities removed: kept to improve the assessment, because it can’t be linked back to you.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us at any time to see, correct, export or delete the personal data we hold about you, or to stop sending you news. You can also delete a single reflection yourself from its results page. Write to us through our contact page (choose “Privacy or my data”) and we’ll respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example in California, the UK or the EU), you may have further rights under local law; we honour them, and we won’t treat you differently for using them.
Security
We use encrypted connections, store access keys only in scrambled (hashed) form, and limit who can see personal data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your information.
Children
Ikigai Today is for adults. We don’t knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page, and tell account holders by email about any important change.
